Melissa Gott

Managing Partner/Founder

Managing Partner and the founder of The Law Group, Melissa Gott is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Campbell University School of Law.  Melissa is a licensed North Carolina attorney, D.R.C. Certified Mediator, Financial (family law) Mediator, and Collaborative Attorney with Coastal Collaborative Colleagues.

At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Melissa graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration concentrating in finance and the legal environment of business.  Melissa then matriculated to Campbell University’s School of Law.  While in law school, Melissa was an editor of Campbell Law Review and participated in such clubs as Project for Older Prisoners and the Federalist Society.  She also worked as a research assistant for Williston on Contracts, a national treatise on contract law and clerked for Judge John Tyson at the North Carolina Court of Appeals.  Melissa graduated with her Juris Doctorate cum laude. She also graduated from Campbell University’s Lundy-Fetterman School of Business with a Master’s in Business Administration.  Melissa’s practice focuses primarily on real estate, family law, business law, and estate planning.  Melissa has also worked on political campaigns, legislative and other government initiatives, spending time in both Raleigh, North Carolina and Washington, DC.

Melissa is very active in the community, participating in her local church, charity boards, and community organizations, including Battleship U.S.S. North Carolina preservation, The Federalist Society, Cape Fear Area Resource Center, Classical Charter Schools of America, Wayne County Historical Association – Revolving Fund Division, Cape Fear Home Builders Association, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Commission, Governor’s Latino Advisory Council, Rotary, Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, American Heart Association, Jaycees, Guardian ad Litem, and pro bono legal work.

She has also been recognized by Lawyers of Distinction for 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023; Lawyer International Legal 100, 2022 and 2023 winner; The Legal Network in 2018; Corporate America Today for her collaborative law work; a Global 100, 2022, and 2023 winner; and most recently, Melissa won the Lawyer Monthly Magazine – Women in Law Award for her outstanding legal expertise and contribution in real estate. Locally, she was nominated and received the WCF Home Builder’s Association Attorney of the Year award and voted the best attorney in the Wilmington area by the readers of Wilmington Magazine. In 2022 and 2023, for all of her accomplishments, Melissa was recognized by The American Registry of America’s Most Honored Lawyers for being in the top 1% of attorneys.
